INSERT TITLE: please someone say 'otsukare' to me

It's been a couple of days since I've replied to Grandma Hina and since I've told everybody the news. In these past few days I've never been idle. I've been stretching my brain and my imagination. And I'm tired.

I've been able to think of some ways to cut the costs and pay for a portion of the increase. 60 percent is just outrageous. What's Grandma Hina thinking?! Anyway, one of them would be limiting the use of the airconditioning... and summer is coming... Baah! Lights and heating would be capped too. I'm willing to waive some fees from my own pocket. I know I'm not making much but every little contribution helps. I'll also have to change my phone into something cheaper, as well as my plan.

My goal is to waive off a portion of the increase. I don't know if everyone's going to like it, but it would decrease the increase down to 40% instead of 60%. And I'll probably starve myself in the process. I'd probably have to talk to everybody individually. It's like a survey. I'll release the results along with the second letter of my reply to grandma.

I'm still baffled why grandma would increase the rent so drastically. She hasn't provided me with any specific reasons except that the economy is bad. Argh! What else is new?

What else should I do? It's been terribly quiet around me these days, it sucks. And the new rent increase will be in effect on March 21.

INSERT TITLE: we call this home

I've sent my reply letter to grandma Hina about the rent. Between the lines, I've told asked if her if there's still a possibility to block the increase or at least lower the rent increase. It's a hefty amount and all of us are still students here.

After sending the letter, I was left with no choice but to let everyone know of this news. This is the second time that we've increased the rent. The last time was a 33%-- what's grandma Hina thinking?! I gathered everyone in the lobby.

At first, I planned to read grandma Hina's letter to everyone, but since it was only addressed to me. I chose not to. "Guys, this is a... how should I say this... I have bad news..."

"Nanda'?" concerned Kitsune-san.

"What is it Keitaro-senpai? This sounds awfully serious." asks Shinobu-chan.

"I've been sent a letter from grandma Hina. And... sigh..." here goes nothing, "... she has sent me a notice, an order to increase the rent at 60%..."

"WHAT?!" Kitsune-san opened both of her eyes in disbelief. "Are you kidding me?!"

"T-that means." uttered Narusegawa.

"Yeah. That means. Someone--" would have to leave if they can't afford it.

INSERT TITLE: A Managerial Dilemma?

I'm not sure how to break this news to everyone. Just when we're finally settled in this year, I received a letter from Grandma Hina. It can change the whole landscape in Hinata Sou. It's very bad. We've already experienced this before. But how is this possible? How are we going to pull it off?

To Keitaro: ... I've received your financial report for the previous year. It's come to my attention to push through with my plan. We need to increase the rent to 60% ...

That was the only thought that stuck in my head. A 60% increase! Can you imagine that?! And the rent is already high! We can't have this. I sent an email back to Grandma Hina. I know Kanako-chan taught her how to use one.

It's just the end of Valentine's Day. I've to come up with something. Grandma Hina is expecting my reply.

KEI'S PROFILE
Keitaro Urashima is a 19 year-old student, at the start of Love Hina, who is trying to get into Tokyo University.

After failing the entrance exams twice and becoming a second-year ronin, he is kicked out of home by his cheap parents, and goes to his grandmother's hotel, thinking he might be able to stay there.

However, he finds out the hard way that his grandmother has turned the hotel into an all-girls dormitory. Through a combination of bad luck and timing, he encounters Naru Narusegawa in the open-air hot springs bath and infuriates her. He then proceeds to land on the bad side of the other dorm residents, before Haruka arrives and metaphorically bails him out. Ultimately he does end up staying at the Hinata House, though the reason and timing varies slightly between the anime and the manga.

Keitaro takes promises seriously, and it seems that he made a number of important ones during his childhood. First and foremost was his promise of 15 years ago (age 5) with a little girl he barely remembers that they would get into Tokyo University together one day.
